Holy One

Immortal, invisible, unresting, unhasting,

Teach us to trust in your inexplicable ways.

Deepen our hope for a heaven

We can hardly imagine.

Appease the pain of loss.

As our hearts break, keep them open.

Widen our compassion for the many

Whose losses also seem unbearable.

Make them bearable.

And help us to bear them with patience and grace.

“And if I go and prepare a place for you,

I will come again and will take you to myself,

that where I am you may be also.”

– John 14:3

When a child dies, the order of life as we know it is overturned.  Our beloved child has gone ahead to be with our Lordand we feel left behind.  We find it extremely difficult see God’s hand of Love and Compassion in the midst of our sadness.  But He is with us.

Our book Pieta Prayers for Bereaved Parents is our invitation to you to rest with God in prayer. Allow your heart to break open and tell Him your secrets.  Fix your gaze upon the cross as you walk in faith. Experience God’s comforting hand on this long, unfamiliar journey.

“Remain in Me,

as I remain in you.” ~ John 15:4

Connecting in Prayer

Prayer is our direct line with heaven; it is an open two-way channel to talk to God and for Him to talk to us. In our time of deep sorrow, it is natural to turn to someone we trust.  Turn to God, our loving Father.

We will never understand why we lose our child too soon.  Suspend the question and try to surrender to the reality.

∙Call out to him

∙Reach out to Him and

∙Rest in his embrace.

Sometimes you don’t even need to say anything.  Sit before him in an Adoration Room and allow Him to envelope you in His love.

Reflection Verses

Some verses you may wish to contemplate and reflect on:

“Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about what happens to you”

1 Peter 5:7

“Because of Christ and our faith in him, we can now come fearlessly into God's presence, assured of his glad welcome”

Ephesians 3:12

“Let us keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, who leads us in our faith and brings it to perfection”

Hebrews 12:2

“So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it”

Hebrews 4:16

With expectation that He is going to deliver. “Listen to my voice in the morning, LORD. Each morning I bring my requests to you and wait expectantly”

Psalm 5:3

“I am praying to you because I know you will answer, O God. Bend down and listen as I pray”

Psalm 17:6

“For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted; a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance.”

Ecclesiastes 3:1-4

We do not want to be unaware about those who have fallen asleep, so that you may not grieve like the rest who have no hope.  For if we believe that Jesus died and rose, so too will God, through Jesus, bring with him those who have fallen asleep.

Thessalonians 4:13-14

“Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in duetime.  Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”                                                        1 Peter 5:6-7
